Tillman’s 11th Birthday

Well, my kiddo is 11 already.  This is crazy!  I’m so proud of him, though, and love him so bad.

We went to donuts in the morning.  I wanted us to go in our pjs, but he was embarrassed.  Psh.  Party pooper.  In the afternoon, we headed to the family fun center in Tukwila and it’s so much different/better than when I was there a) a million years ago, and b) in the winter when none of the outdoor stuff was open.  We did the go karts twice, the bumper boats (which the water felt really good on such a hot day), mini golf (not keeping score, but I’m sure I smoked him), and then went inside for some bowling.  We got home around 6:30.  James had just gotten home from work and showered.  Had dinner at Red Lobster because Tillman has been talking about their cheddar biscuits for weeks, and then home for a cupcake and Happy Birthday.   It was a hot and exhausting day, but a lot of fun.

All dressed up

James’s sister got married a few weeks ago.  She had Tillman and her other nephew walk her down the aisle.  It was really sweet.  Tillman wore the same rental suit as the groomsmen.  He looked so handsome.

The wedding was really beautiful.  They are a very great couple.

Here are a couple photos of us all dressed up.  (James said I looked like a high maintenance girl.  Great praise. Ha.)

5th grade

Tillman started 5th grade today.  I was emotional after dropping him off.  It probably wasn’t all him going to school, we have some other stuff going on right now, but spending time with James and Tillman is my favorite thing.  I’m use to James being at work, but I love the time I spend with Tillman and I’m sad that he’s in school.  Plus, 5th grade means he’s big and old.  Next year, he’ll be in middle school.  So much love and pride.

Room Redo

Back in December, I think, Tillman decided that he wanted to have his loft bed on the floor.  So, we had to get rid of a lot of stuff that he was storing under his bed.  We decided to get a few new pieces of furniture that would be a little more “grown up.”  And we decided that we were going to paint.  The furniture and stuff happened pretty quickly.  The painting…well, we finished at the end of June while Tillman was at 4 day camp.  We did kind of a map theme.

Here is what the before paint looked like:

He’s 10

Wow!  I can’t believe that he’s 10!  We are so proud of him.

His birthday was on a Monday, so he and I got to spend the whole day together before James got off work and we went to dinner and open gifts.

We had donuts in our pajamas and watched Inside Out (not in our pajamas).

He chose Red Robin for his birthday dinner where he got a free sundae.  And then we went home and had cake and ice cream.

I think he had quite a good birthday.

Mother’s Day

This morning, I was served pancakes in bed! It was awesome. Tillman crawled into bed with me and James brought him some pancakes, too. He got syrup on the blanket. Haha! It was very sweet and a fantastic treat.

Friday, James picked Tillman up from school and they brought me gifts. Cards from Tillman, James, and the dogs, blueberries, which I love, and this:Image

Isn’t it the best? I love it. James said he has something for me, too, but he forgot it at work. My Mother’s Day is already great, no need to heap it on, but I’m looking forward to it anyway.

King Tillman

Another favorite Friday: royalty day. Once again, my craftiness is miniscule. I looked for a crown to buy, but only found tiaras. If you know Tillman, you know that this would not fly regardless of how manly it was modified. So, I made him this crown with posterboard, glass decorating beads, and gold ribbon.  He wore it to school on Friday. But, it turned out the favorite Friday was a different Friday. Oops! Haha. Anyway, its not too embarrassing, right? (Oh, and don’t his eyes look pitiful? The pollen is doing a number on him.)

Easter

Tillman was disappointed because I didn’t hide eggs for him this year.  I thought he was too old, but I guess you’re never too old.  He got a very simple Easter basket of the movie Marley and Me (which have you seen that?  It’s the saddest movie ever!  I was ugly crying under a blanket when I watched it for the first time today.  What is my problem buying that for him?  They shouldn’t have put such a cute puppy on the cover without the disclaimer that the movie is the saddest thing!), a battery powered bubble blower, a chocolate bunny, and some robin eggs.

Yesterday, we dyed eggs.  That was fun.

New sofa

Yesterday, Gunner went a big time #1 on the couch.  I’m not sure when or why, but it sat there for a while before Tillman pointed it out after school yesterday.  I have been trying ever since to clean it, and the smell…oh my goodness!  I was able to wash the cushion covers and get it off there, but I couldn’t get it off the other parts that do not detach from the couch.

We have been thinking about getting a different couch for quite some time, so we went shopping.  I just can’t stand the thought of hanging out on a pee couch.  Gross.

We went to MOR first because they have free popcorn, soda, and cookies.  It’s a huge showroom, and we saw a couple things we liked.  We were almost all the way around back to the doors (it’s kind of shaped like a horseshoe) when I saw that we were coming up on a red leather sofa.  I was just going to act like I didn’t see it or didn’t like it, because I knew that it was going to be too expensive.  BUT, IT WASN’T!  It was super inexpensive!  I sat on it and it was cozy and that was the end.  James liked it, too, and so we bought it!  They had it in stock, so here we are, just three hour later and Tillman is watching Spiderman from it.

The photo doesn’t really show how red it is, unfortunately.  It’s super red!  We are more neutral in our home furnishings, so this is a big change for us.  But, I love it.  RED!

mask day at school

Today for “favorite Friday” the kids were able to wear a mask that they made.  It could be store bought and embellished and couldn’t be a character.   I bought these cheepo masks at the Dollar Store and Tillman and I used the hot glue gun to add pipe cleaner antennae, feather side burns, and wiggly eyes.  It was kind of fun.  I’m not very crafty, so this was just the right size task for us.

Tillman’s last day of Christmas break

Tillman gets a long Christmas break – 3 full weeks.  I had to work a portion of it and he spent some time at my mom’s house, so I felt kind of sad that we didn’t get to spend as much time together as we would have in the past.  On his last day, I decided that he and I were going to have a day of fun.  We went bowling, ate french fries, went shopping for toys with his Christmas money and then finished it off by going to an arcade.  It was fun.  The photo of me is me converting the straw wrapper to an earring.  Ha.
